As Johnny Rotten, John Lydon was the snarling public face of the Sex Pistols and, briefly, of British punk itself. By the time this portrait was made the band's confrontational energy had crossed the Atlantic, feeding directly into the downtown New York scene that Grossman documented. Soon after the Pistols' implosion Lydon would form Public Image Ltd and push toward the more abstract territory of post-punk.
Each print is produced from the original negative, dated and hand-signed by Bobby Grossman on the front, stamped on the verso, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery. All works are limited edition.
