Bobby Grossman

Bobby Grossman

Bobby Grossman arrived in New York in the 1970s and quickly became a key insider documenting the punk and new wave explosion. With his camera, he captured raw, intimate moments at legendary spots like the Chelsea Hotel, Warhol’s Factory, C.B.G.B.’s, and the cult TV show TV Party, where he was the official photographer.

His gritty, authentic style led to collaborations with iconic musicians such as Blondie, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, The Ramones, Robert Fripp, and Talking Heads (for whom he shot the Psycho Killer cover). His photographs were published in Rolling Stone, Interview, The Village Voice, Artforum, and others, and have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide.

Grossman was featured in seminal shows like New York/New Wave (1981) and Bande à Part (2006–2009), and has worked with artists like Shepard Fairey. More than an observer, Grossman was part of the scene — his lens capturing the unfiltered energy of a legendary era in music and counterculture.
