Inquire About This WorkDavid Byrne photographed in New York City in 1979 by Bobby Grossman.
As the frontman and principal songwriter of Talking Heads, David Byrne helped define the art-school edge of New York's new wave, channeling the nervous energy of CBGB into something cerebral and danceable. By 1979 the band had moved from downtown clubs toward international audiences, with Brian Eno shaping the run of albums that would culminate in Remain in Light. Grossman photographed Byrne in the same plainspoken register that marked his portraits of the downtown circle, trading spectacle for candor.
