About this work

Andy Warhol photographed in New York City in 1978 by Bobby Grossman.

Andy Warhol had, by 1978, long since collapsed the distance between fine art and celebrity, turning the silkscreen portrait into the defining image-form of the age. As founder of the Factory and Interview, he sat at the crossroads of Pop art, film, and the downtown nightlife that fed New York's music scene. Grossman's portrait studies record the artist with a directness rare among the countless images Warhol generated of himself.

Each print is produced from the original negative, dated and hand-signed by Bobby Grossman on the front, stamped on the verso, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery. All works are limited edition.

Vintage prints from the original period may be available upon request. Please contact the gallery for further information.
