Mick Rock
At The Music Photo Gallery, our connection with Mick Rock spans several years, dating back to 2015. We had the privilege of working closely with him, producing his David Bowie exhibition in Los Angeles alongside Taschen and organizing successful exhibitions of his work in New York City, Mexico, Buenos Aires, Brazil, and London. His shows were met with incredible acclaim, reinforcing his status as one of the most iconic rock photographers of all time.
After Mick’s passing, we had the honor of presenting, for the first time, a selection from his vintage archive—a collection of never-before-seen prints in rare formats, featuring David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Syd Barrett, and many others. This milestone took place at Photo London, in collaboration with his family, as part of our ongoing commitment to preserving his legacy.
Mick was not only a dear friend but also a visionary who entrusted us with his most valuable negatives and archives. Together with his family, we remain dedicated to safeguarding and celebrating his extraordinary body of work.Often nicknamed “The Man Who Shot the Seventies,” Mick Rock was, more accurately, “The Man Who Captured Five Decades of Rock Music, Iconic Personalities, and Culture.”
The 1970s were undoubtedly the modern Golden Age of music, and fate, in its wisdom, placed Mick at the very heart of it—the right place, at the right time. He never hesitated for a moment to step into what would become the world of rock photography.
His unparalleled talent—his eye, his spontaneity, and even his name—was his passport to an enduring legacy.
At The Music Photo Gallery, we are proud to continue sharing his work with the world.
