Bob Gruen

Bob Gruen

Born in New York in 1945, Bob Gruen is one of the most respected and renowned photographers in the world of rock and roll. For over forty years, he has captured the essence of the music scene with images that have gained international recognition. His career began photographing rock stars such as Bob Dylan, and he later became John Lennon’s personal photographer during his years in New York.

As the chief photographer for Rock Scene Magazine in the 1970s, Bob specialized in behind-the-scenes photo essays. He extensively toured with legendary artists including Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, The Clash, the Ramones, and Blondie. His photographs have graced the covers and pages of iconic publications such as Creem, Melody Maker, and Rolling Stone, capturing artists both on stage and off, backstage, on tour, and during candid moments.

The Music Photo Gallery is honored to exclusively represent Bob Gruen’s archive of vintage prints. For over fifteen years, we have curated and presented exhibitions of his work throughout America and Europe, including cities like Buenos Aires, São Paulo, New York, Paris, London, and many others. In 2022, we showcased Bob’s work in a special solo presentation within the main section of Paris Photo, the world’s most prestigious international photography fair, curated by Julien Frydman.
