Originally presented at the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS) in São Paulo, Brazil, John Lennon in New York by Bob Gruen brought together a remarkable selection of photographs documenting Lennon’s life during the years he lived in New York City.

Curated for the Brazilian audience by journalist Ricardo Alexandre, the exhibition featured works by Bob Gruen, one of the most significant photographers of the rock and roll era and a close friend of Lennon during the 1970s.

Beyond the public image of a former Beatle and international music icon, Gruen’s photographs offered a more intimate portrait of Lennon’s life in New York. The exhibition explored his relationship with Yoko Ono, his role as a father, his creative and political engagement, and the everyday moments that unfolded away from the stage and the spotlight.

Through more than 140 photographs, the exhibition provided a rare visual account of one of the most influential cultural figures of the twentieth century, seen through the lens of the photographer who documented him more closely than almost anyone else during this defining chapter of his life.
